Gobble, Gobble!

A very Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. May your turkey be juicy, your cranberry be saucy, and your pumpkins be pieish!

Today is..

Today, November 19th, is National Carbonated Beverage with Caffeine Day. Sounds like a bizarre thing to celebrate, but whoop it up with a Coke Zero. Yay!

I'm in Atlanta. It seemed appropriate.

Now, I'm not a huge soda drinker, but I do enjoy the flavored carbonation of a wild cherry seltzer. If I am gonna drink soda, I'll stick to the a-typical orange, root beer, cream, black cherry or ginger ale (which, if you ask me, is the most under rated flavor of soda EVER!).

Let's take a poll... what kind of soda do you like the best?

ATL ... ATL.... Atlanta!

I am in Atlanta, enjoying the company of my niece and nephew, sister and brother-in-law, and their fantastic friends. Its a never ending parade of friends, kids, food... this is the life I want, surrounded with laughter, friendship and more.

I'll be here for the week,, including Thanksgiving. My nephew, as I mentioned in an earlier post, broke his femur bone, so he is in a somewhat full body cast. But he is taking it like a trooper. He still has his mischievous smile.

I keep thinking I need to make being in Atlanta a part of my future plans. How could you not want to be close to this????

Career Change?

So, as I was driving home today, I starting thinking about what I want to do with my life. I'm 30, I should have some clue, right?

I've always loved higher education. Having been involved in it for over 10 years now, there is nothing quite like working with the students, or telling a first-generation student they are going to college, or working with brilliant minds to develop theories. And, I'm getting heavily involved in national issues relating to transfer issues, not to mention a statewide speaker and consultant on transfer access and programming. In all, I find it comforting, challenging, and a thrill. But is it what I want to do with the rest of my life?

I had a big event on campus today; another conference for 200 people, including a few Maryland delegates, the Board of Regents, campus presidents, etc. It was so fun, exciting almost, to plan, organize and execute the event. It makes me think I should be an event planner. (Which would fit into my dream of owning a restaurant or catering company or something.)

Then, at the same time, I've become enthralled with graphic design. I've taught myself web layout, html, java, flash, not to mention design, typography, etc. I enjoy the creative side of this, not to mention my annoying attention to details and simple, clean layout.

So, how do I combine higher education, event planning, and graphic design into one career? If anyone has the answer, let me know.

Another shout out...

... i think people are feeling left out!

Shout outs to my friend Lilah, who is the cutest baby girl born in the last 6 months south of the mason dixon line but north of South of the Border. Also to my friend Alex(ander), who is living it up in London, cooking away and taking photographs. (He took my pictures, and did amazing things with photoshop!)

Word to my peeps, yo.

New Boss!

I am very excited, because it was announced today (informally), that I have a new boss.

I don't normally talk about work in my blog, since it could come back to haunt me, but I am quite happy about this, and I wanted to share the news.

My work situation has always been awkward, since I have issues (don't we all?) with my current reporting structure. This new hire (a Jewish woman!) will have a direct report to the president of the university, and will have a single focus on enrollment management. It could mean great things for me, and for the University.

Anyway, that's my happy moment for an otherwise dreary and wet Tuesday.

5 things you should know about me.

In the spirit of Grey's Anatomy this week, here are five things everyone should know about me.

1. I'm allergic to bananas. I'm not sure its a full on allergy, but they make me sick to my stomach.

2. I've always wanted to learn how to play the saxophone. Jazz music, with scat, specifically.

3. I can draw a straight line without using a ruler. This leads into my love of designing floor plans.

4. My dream is to own a bed and breakfast with a quaint romantic restaurant attached.

5. When I was in third grade, I threw up on my teacher in the middle of class.

What are your five things?

Target Weight!

Congratulate me, I hit my target weight this weekend! I think I'll celebrate with a big thick juicy hamburger. Cuz that's what I'm craving more then anything else.

I still want to loose another 5+ pounds, but I'm happy I was able to get back to the weight I was before the food frenzy began.

WHOO HOO! I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it!

The Most Watched Video (ever) on YouTube

So, here it is folks, the most watched video on YouTube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMH0bHeiRNg

And, for the record, its freakin hysterical. I mean, you'll be groovin along with it.

Seriously.

Things that don't go together...

Just a word of advice. Watermelon flavored gum and vanilla lattes don't go together. Stay away from mixing the two. Blech.
